Cruise ship verses small boat cruise in alaska
March 04, 2020
Cruising on a large ship in Alaska you will miss so much of the beauty of Alaska. Big ships primarily cruise at night to get to the larger cities in Southeast Alaska. During the day they dock at either Juneau, Skagway, Sitka or Ketchikan. Each of these towns are set up with Jewelry stores T shirt shops and nick nack shops. On any given summer day you will encounter 15,000 to 20,000 visitors from cruise ships in these towns. You can buy many added adventures fishing, Whale Watching, sight seeing in a sea plane and many more. When you buy an added adventure such as fishing trip, you have to fish on the cruise ship schedule. Not when it is the best time of tide or day to fish. On the Northern Dream we take you where the cruise ships cannot go. We only travel during day light hours. If we see a whale, porpoises. Sea otters we stop to view them. We fish for Halibut and Dungeness Crab. Our chef prepares your catch fresh onboard. We visit small bush towns, Hotsprings. Some nights we anchor in small bays where you can explore in one of our kayaks. We visit glaciers up close and travel into the Iccy fyords to get to them.On the Northern Dream you will not have to stand in lines or pay extra for anything.
